Publication in Nature Group on violence in hook-ups

Nature’s Palgrave Communications journal has positively assessed and published an article of extraordinary relevance for those of us who want to scientifically analyze and know how to overcome violence in relationships between girls and boys.

The article discovers the great influence and characteristics of a coercive dominant discourse  which pushes some girls to have sporadic hook-ups with boys with violent attitudes. The research has been carried out with a sample of girls between the ages of thirteen and sixteen in Cyprus, Spain, Finland and the United Kingdom. International scientific literature which showed the existence of violence in sporadic relationships already existed; this research continues that work taking a step forward as it proves that the coercive dominant discourse pushes some girls towards relationships with boys with violent attitudes more frequently in sporadic relationships than in stable ones. In the four different countries, the coercive discourse has that same effect.

The study shows the frequent mistake made in Spain when placing the danger of violence against women in stable relationships, omitting the fact that the danger is even greater in sporadic hook-ups. The good news is that violence-free relationships (both stable and sporadic) are frequent. However, concern prevails regarding the coercive discourse that pushes some girls towards violent relationships, and this research opens a highly important door for its analysis and overcoming.

In sum, this type of scientific article is very positive and necessary for feminism and the entire society.
