The international press is publishing that three women researchers, from three different countries, have denounced that a well-known sociologist has allegedly sexually harassed them. This author is well known as one of the main referents of decolonial literature.
However, the best sociologists have never had him as a reference and have never even cited him. On the contrary, the best international sociology has co-led research and action against sexual harassment in the academy, including the constitution of MeToo University.
The sociology that authors from the different natural and social sciences like and use is a feminist, anti-racist sociology, of great theoretical rigor and with a measurable social impact on the improvement of the living conditions of citizens in the orientation of the SDGs. All this is very different and contrary to what the aforementioned sociologist did, which does not represent today’s sociology at all.
We must recognize that there have always been critical intellectuals who have had this reference and who have applauded his lectures in the form of “critical and transformative” speeches, as if they were hooligans, without knowledge of having improved and transformed a single concrete situation. We consider that in order to overcome sexual harassment and all kind of inequalities we should use as a criterion to choose referents whether or not it is scientifically proven that their activity improves society and does not only serve to increase their income and fame.
